The Verdict on Yoga

My YogaBuddy and I have been practicing yoga now for about 7 weeks.  We have done several different dvds and I think I can speak for both of us when I say that we have three favorites so far.

1. Sara Ivanhoe

Sara's practice combines vinyasa flow with standing poses (Warrior, Triangle) and is great for a beginner.  It is challenging, but she walks you through it and doesn't make you feel like an idiot.  She even uses the word "clunk", which is still our favorite word when we are moving into certain poses.

2.  Rodney Yee

Rodney is very well known because he is a Gaiam instructor.  I was introduced to yoga by Rodney Yee's videos (yes, that would be VHS) years ago, and it is nice to experience the power behind his routines.  Definitely gets our heartrate up!

3.  Shiva Rea
Shiva's dvds are definitely a workout!  We did her Sun Salutations dvd and by the end we were sweating and panting as though we had done a cardio workout.  She uses all of the fancy yoga terms instead of "chair pose".  We wouldn't recommend starting with Shiva, but when in the mood for a challenge, she is great.

It has been really cool to go on this yoga journey with Desiree.  We both decided we wanted to do it at the same time, and both agree that we are much more relaxed in life now that we are doing it.  There is a meditative power involved with yoga that has really helped me with my kids, with work, and being able to let go of the small stuff.  I would highly recommend it!

  1. Awe! I love being mentioned on your blog!! And I am LOVING Yoga!! I already lost my weekend junk food weight just from doing it for the past 2 days. I love that after 5 1/2 months-we are still going strong and attempting to work out every morning! Thanks for being such a good yoga buddy!
