Remember that whole scene in the movie Clueless where Alicia Silverstone is telling Britney Murphy that they need to read one non-school book a week? That is what I am going for as one of my New Year's Resolutions. I have read a few Facebook Status updates where people say they hate New Year's Resolutions. I don't. I love them. I love the idea of facing a fresh year. LOVE it. It gives me new challenges, new hopes, new ideas, etc. etc. That being said, I am one of those strange people that like change and new adventures.
So this is my January list of non-school books a week. As you all know well unless you have never been here before, I am on a quest for knowledge about health and nutrition and fitness. Especially when it comes to kids. The best way for me to become an expert on what the experts say, is to read read read.
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho - yeah, actually this is for Book Club and I am hosting it this month.
PUSH by Chalene Johnson. My bestie, hubby and I are following her 30 day challenge in this book throughout the month of January. I love challenges! I also love any ideas that help me to set goals and keep me on track. I've read a few chapters and am really motivated.
Forks over Knives by T. Colin Campbell and Caldwell B. Esselstyn, Jr
Disease-Proof Your Child by Joel Fuhrman, M.D. (author of Eat to Live) - I read the first part of this book and was hooked when it said, "The modern diet that most children are eating today creates a fertile cellular environment for cancer to emerge at a later age." Also, "Childhood diets create adult cancers." He also cites a statistic that American children and children in developed countries eat less than 2% of their diet from natural plant foods such as fruits and vegetables. Yikes!
The Happy Herbivore by Lindsay S. Nixon - a cookbook? Yes! However, I am a cookbook reading nerd and there are pretty pictures.
The Complete Idiot's Guide to Plant-Based Nutrition by Julieana Hever
All this along with following the TurboFire workout plan and my new Les Mills PUMP program (which should arrive tomorrow!) and January should be a very exciting month!
