Day 14 & 15 - Homeschooling and Socialization

Day 14 - Homeschooling and Socialization

When I first started homeschooling, the number one question I got was, "What about socialization?"  A valid concern, but no one ever asked me about academics.  That gave me a bit of confidence!  My experience with homeschooled kids over the past few years, is that they are just as normal or strange as kids who attend public school.  Truly, if a kid is going to be awkward in homeschool, he/she is probably going to be awkward anywhere.  Some kids are just like that.  That's okay - I'm pretty sure Bill Gates and Steve Jobs were awkward kids.

What seems strange to me about the question, is that most kids in public school are in a classroom most of the day until at least high school, with 25-30 other kids their same age.  Out in the "real world", people of all ages interact with each other.  So where do they learn that in order to function as adults in the real world?  Probably not in a classroom.  My guess is it just happens naturally as children grow into adults and get jobs and have bosses they have to report to.  Or, they become quirky entrepreneurs, and believe me when I say that most entrepreneurs I know are very quirky.  Still okay - everyone is created to be different.  It's trying to make us all the same that causes problems.

Today was my first follow up call with the clinic that is helping me with my lymphedema diet.  He hasn't gotten the test results back that I did last week, but we talked about how things are going.  I am not positive, but I think I have lost maybe 7-8 lbs since starting.  I don't know where I was when I started all of this, having not weighed myself for a while, but from Saturday to today I am down 3 lbs.

I'm still sticking to the food regimen - no gluten, dairy, sugar, corn, soy, eggs, or potatoes.  My food doesn't vary all that much from day to day.  Smoothies for breakfast, fruit and raw soaked almonds for morning snack, salads for lunch with black beans, veggies and hummus for afternoon snack, fish or chicken for dinner with 2-3 different vegetable sides.

After 4-6 weeks, the doctor wants to add in one food at a time to see how my body reacts to it.  I can absolutely tell that my lymphedema has improved, and my legs don't feel heavy all of the time.  I still can only do easy walking a few times a week for exercise.

Normally I do Essential Oil for the Day, but I want to give some love to my sponsor, Modere. Use Promo Code: 642265 to get a discount on products!  I love their stuff!
